We will have more details available on our website early next week. We understand the desire for in-person visits and we share your concern over restrictions.
However, this pandemic is not over and we firmly believe now is not the time for any restrictions to be loosened or lifted. Using our own Kensington Site as an example, what began with an innocent visit between a resident and a COVID positive relative who was not showing symptoms in early March has now lead to over 30 staff and residents with COVID, many who needed to be hospitalized and put in the ICU, and the tragic loss of 3 beautiful souls.
In addition, we have had to put over residents in day isolation and on additional precautions. We cannot take the risk of this happening at any of our sites going forward.
This is one of the things that makes this virus so deadly — you can be infecting others and not ever know you ever had it.
These include costs related to additional staffing, procurement of Personal Protective Equipment, and capital costs. Part of our investment is in technology through the purchase of additional iPads to facilitate virtual visits with your loved ones in care.
This situation is frustrating for all of us, myself included. These are difficult and unprecedented times.
My commitment to you remains the same; we will do everything in our power to keep your loved one safe. With your help and cooperation, we will get through this pandemic faster.

We are working with the government to ensure that we have a consistent supply of Personal Protective Equipment PPE. We have received a number of inquiries about having residents tested for COVID The public health protocol is that only individuals who are symptomatic are tested, and we have to follow that protocol.
Medically, it does not make sense to test individuals who are not showing symptoms, as the tests are in limited supply and the results may not be accurate.
If your loved one is not showing any symptoms and you still believe they should be tested, please call to discuss your concerns with public health.
We have appreciated the number of questions that have already come in for our town halls later this week, please keep them coming.

With our move yesterday to isolate all residents at Kensington Village, and with staff at that facility mandated to wear personal protective equipment at all times, we expect the incidence of new cases to decrease.
Like most health care providers, we are always looking for additional supplies of personal protective equipment.
We are in need of masks, face shields, and gowns. If you or anyone you know has access to these items, we would be extremely grateful for a donation.

Our increased screening with temperature check discovered a health care aide of ours who presented with a fever on April 1, and was subsequently sent into isolation.
We received news late yesterday that this individual has also tested positive for COVID This is very welcome news.
