The polls may currently be in the Conservative corner, but there are some simple things to remember:

1. When you are at the bottom of the polls, you can only go up!

By sticking with it and not resigning, Gordo retains some stoic support…”Here is a man who will not give up when things go bad for him, he might just be the best choice to get us out of this mess, after all we all get things wrong.” …I have heard this many times, have you? Were you really surprised (like me) at who said it? Never underestimate the determined soul!

2. We are not electioneering!

Opposition polls are always better in the run up to an election as they reflect point issues of the day. Polls will show a different picture as people start to think about a range of issues. When matters are complex, the voter will tend to swing toward the known and established entity.

Jason above is absolutely correct…elections are lost, not won!

3. We are in a recession

A recession means that the rules are different! Out of recession the voter wants to see investment in things that they MAY need (Health, Defense, public Services). In recession such issues take second place to things that effect individuals…Pensions, Investments, Salary, Unemployment. These tend to be real splitters between Conservative and Socialist policy!

4. We are at War

We have 2-3 soldiers dying every day…Am I clear that this will reduce under a Conservative leadership? Maybe the answer is in the fact I even ask.

5. Don’t rely on Gordo failure and slickness of delivery

William Hauge is a great orator and his delivery is flawless, but he was forced to fight an election on a manifesto that appeared disjointed. 1/2 the party wanted Europe, 1/2 the party ddn’t, William wanted the pound…

I add this because although Gordo is terrible at delivery, it will be the substance of the manfesto, clearness of message and unwavering unity of the party that will win over the voter.

If you have an issue with anybody in the Shadow Cabinet, get it out of your system before conference! Then swallow hard and back them even if they come up with something stupid…It is far easier to change your mind in Government than during the election!

Osborne should provide more detail about cuts that would be popular with the electorate. He risks being boxed into a corner.

We are underfunded. Obama cuts ‘Star Wars’ defence shield.

Cut Trident? Let’s leave this country in a dangerous position.

Why not invite someone to invade us.

It is a dangerous game. Cosying up to the Lib Dems to get their voters to cross, does risk alienating core voters.

There is NO clear differential in voters minds now.

I worry that we could see a 1992 election again. Voters go with the devil they know!

I am really concerned. Governments lose elections, not Oppositions win them. Hence all the tools are there for the Government to use.

Now, yes Brown is unpopular. Hated. But the Polls still show circa 20-25% still will vote Labour. That is effectively a hardcore support. Considering the mess. That’s a strong figure. Just consider how poor this Government have been. The economic mess, massively worsened by Browns deregulation of the Banks. Afghanistan. The war with no strategy or end goal. Hundreds dead. Labour could not have made more of a mess.

So why the ‘high’ poll rating?

People still trust them. Why is a question of sanity.

So their poll rating can only go up now. Economic recovery. Maybe Brown deposed as you say.

This election is not in the bag.

Someone should show this to Pickles strategy team
