Why does the UK have the 3rd worst swine flu toll in the world?

So question, why is it that a small, tiny nation like Britain has the 3rd worst swine flu toll in the world?
Official figures state that there are currently the following known cases of swine flu across the world:
USA 33,902
Mexico 10,262
UK 10,000
Canada 7,983
Chile 7,376
Australia 5,298
Argentina 2,485
Tanzania 2,076
China 2,040
Japan 1,790
The UK’s Chief medical Officer, Sir Liam Donaldson also stated that the number of cases were most likely a lot higher in the UK but many people have not registered their symptoms.
But thankfully we have the clear bold leadership of Gordon Brown and crew. They have already provided all households with the vital swine flu leaflet that told us to put our hands in front of our face when we sneeze, then wash our hands. Yes…..’catch it, bin it, kill it’!!! Thanks for that vital information which needed to be sent to Britain’s 26.5 million households.
And now, just as the recession is on a knife edge the government make another genius announcement. Workers will be able to sign themselves off sick for up to two weeks under Government emergency plans released by Andy Burnham. Just as well it is not a World Cup year as the nation would be signed off work.
Any answers to why little old Britain is the 3rd highest swine flu cases in the World?

Because we are a nation of overweight couch potatoes, who are unfit, obese, hence have crap immune systems and will catch any disease, especially on our overcrowded transport system where we are so crammed in, especially on the London Underground, where we are face to face with people that it feels like they have their tongue down my throat
I suspect it’s because we’re keeping a more accurate count than other countries – up to now. But won’t be from now on
I know of two definite cases that I or my colleagues have come into contact with but up to 11 that aren’t diagnosed, and won’t be because they’re back at work, or school. It’s no longer a big deal in London.
If you think the tube’s crowded (which it can be) have you been to Paris recently ?
Loved this reply Sami….you are so right in many ways!
Hey Nils…I think you are right….well up to this point…now anyone with a cold or the sniffles will self diagnose that they had swine flu!
Paris tube is worse?!!!!
We have higher figures because the word on the street said the sooner you get it the better it will be, if we wait until Autumn to get it the we might die! Spo we have all been consciously shopping for it, going to crowded places trying to get our allotted dose as soon as possible.
Is this a good thing?
Agree. Will be interesting to see how many people self diagnose swine flu over the summer and how many take the full 2 weeks off…….as a guess, I imagine the stats will be loaded to the majority of people have 1.5-2 weeks off….self certified……or am I too cynical?
I answered the points you made a week ago.

Thanks Norfolk Blogger….will certainly keep my eyes on your site.
Because this is by far the most overcrowded country and has the highest population density of all those listed, except possibly for the urban areas of Mexico.
