Whether it be the use of the various 'terror laws' to snoop on litterbugs, or the use of public order laws in order to enforce the diktats of the PC brigade, or, as I was reading today, the intention of the state to legally snoop on those who choose not to enroll their children in the state education sysem, and will have to register their children and become subject to external visits and assessments - all of it is an unwarranted grasping at power by the ruling caste, and an ideology without many real challengers at this moment.Except, of course, for some encouraging noises Mr. Cameron has been making recently about the drive to push power downward and outward away from central government and toward local authorities etc. etc. But then the question remains: will this not merely push the totalitarianism from central control to local control? That is, would a truly conservative response not be to dissolve the unwarranted powers completely, rather than transfer control of them from one bureaucracy to another?
